2008 New Year in DC

With millions of people now celebrating New Years Eve and aspiring to wealth and happiness in 2008, here's the chart set for Washington, DC, Jan 1, 2008 00:00 am est.

Wish I could like the looks of it more but it's difficult with the critical 29th degree sprinkled about and this time it's the Nodal (fated) degree. Even asteroid, Lilith (29Cap24) is at the midpoint of Pluto/NN, a combo associated with destiny of the masses and with powerful associations.

Lilith has gotten much bad press over time and there are conflicting reports about her, but some keywords for Lilith are: strong will; interests in the occult and the unconscious; self-hatred in women; women's suffrage or feminist movement; the childkiller; the alluring woman and the allured; movie stars.

Also of concern is Icarus, linked to those who fly too high only to find their wings melted, and with assassination. Since the world has recently suffered this with Benazir Bhutto's murder, this may be in the past, yet Icarus is conjunct Mercury (young people), and at the NWO degree, "18Cap" (degree of the Great Uranus-Neptune conjunction of 1993) so my hope and prayer is that Benazir Bhutto's 19-year-old son is being better protected than his mother was.

Mercury is in Capricorn, sign of authority and politics, and he has, as you've heard, been tapped by his mother to lead the PPP when he returns from Oxford University. (19 years old means he's at his first Nodal Return when significant relationships are formed.)

Mercury at the NWO degree may also indicate announcements or messages from "on high" from the elites of the world who think so much of themselves and their right to interfere in the lives of everyone else. As if!

Moon is soon to rise 19Lib49, along with the US progressed Mars Rx, bringing the military and Pentagon into the immediate picture.

Venus at the "Grand Army of the Republic campfire" degree (1Sag) is in 2nd house of money and rules the 8th house of debt and credit, so the tiffs over the billions Washington is borrowing and spending on the war will be affected by two midpoints: Sun/Moon, which relates to relationships, and Saturn/Neptune, a midpoint of loss and disappointment.

Can you be more disappointed in Washington's drunken sailor spending and so-called leadership than you were in 2007? I suppose it's possible, but I shudder to think.

Rebellious reformer Uranus is Unaspected, conj Fixed Star Achernar, and may run away with the chart since he's working on his own. Midnight 2008 occurs during a Mars Hour with fiery Mars still Rx and out-of-bounds--up to not much good, I suspect.

Mercury is out-of-bounds as well. Perhaps Bhutto's son is secreted in an undisclosed location!

Yet there are lovely indications, too: Mercury/Jupiter = Sun may illuminate solutions and creativity, the spiritually in tune Moon trine Neptune reaches out warmly and creatively toward the New Year, while Sun/Jupiter = MC aspires to health, wealth, and abundance.

And that is my wish for the New Year wherever you may be: all the abundance of the Universe where Love is the Foundation for all Mankind if we will only accept and, as Tavis Smiley always says, keep the faith.

CDC Tracking Down 44 Passengers In 17 States 29 Dec 2007

Health officials are trying to track down American Airlines passengers in 17 states for testing after a California woman flew while sick with a dangerous strain of tuberculosis. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says a California woman boarded an American Airlines flight in New Delhi, India, on December 13. The flight stopped at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport before continuing on to San Francisco. CDC officials are working on tracking down 44 people who sat within two rows of the woman on the flight. She is being treated in isolation at a California hospital.#

Spotlight on Mercury: Mike Huckabee

Today I continue the series on candidates' Mercuries (their thinking and communication abilities and styles) with Republican Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, who has stated in the campaign that he will "represent the people on Main Street, not Wall Street."

Setting aside my intuition that none of the candidates will truly be able to perform this amazing feat from the Oval Office--and they won't occupy it long if they do--I submit to you my notes on Huckabee's natal chart with emphasis on natal Mercury 17Vir31 (sunrise--birth time unknown--Aug 24, 1955; 5:46:19 am CST.)

Mercury rules two signs of the zodiac--Gemini and Virgo. A Geminian Mercury is interested in ideas for their own sakes, while Mercury in Virgo prefers that ideas have practical applications toward financial success and status.

Depending on aspects, house placements, and other factors, a Virgoan Mercury indicates an analytical mind with practical reasoning ability. Precision and accuracy are important to this Mercury placement which works best in orderly surroundings where efficient procedures are prominent (The Astrologer's Handbook, Sakoian.)

Education and development of skills, including proper grammar, bring financial and professional success to the Virgoan Mercury. Language abilities make them good orators, an ability which has aided Huckabee in his early preaching career and, of couse, in verbiose politics.

Mercury in Virgo is oriented toward dedicated work, so when Huckabee mentions his previous hard work as governor, I believe him. Detailed work is attractive to the Virgoan Mercury which may show a shyness and a retiring air which doesn't like to waste time in idle conversation. Getting on with the job is more common unless other factors interfere.

Since I have no birth time for him, Mercury's house placement is unknown to me (though it wouldn't surprise me if Huckabee has Sag rising considering his previous poundage, plus: Jupiter = the preacher; the optimist), but we can be certain that natal Mercury is in a separating sextile (60 degrees) with n Saturn in Scorpio.

The fact that it is a separating (waning) aspect indicates that the aspect's gifts are inherited, probably from the paternal side--unless his mother wore the pants in the family--and with Moon in Scorpio, perhaps she did. And it's possible he received these abilities from both sides of the family, for we are all the 'flowering of our generations,' aren't we?

Mercury sextile Saturn: disciplined mind; organizational skills esp in career matters; prudence and forethought in the decision-making process; lecturing and teaching talents; math ability; never leaves anything to chance--there is purpose behind every thought and action.

That last trait is perfect for politics in which nothing happens by accident--if it happens, we can be sure it was designed to happen (FDR.) (btw: I consider this to apply to mysterious 'suicides' and plane crashes as well.)

As final dispositor of his natal chart, Huckabee's Mercury in Virgo underpins all his natal planets' energies, is strong in its own sign, and indicates a stable mind able to organize his talents toward long-term goals and objectives.

See emerald-colored Comet Tuttle!

Space Weather News for Dec. 29, 2007

After a 13.6 year absence, Comet 8P/Tuttle is once again traveling through the inner solar system. On Jan 1 and 2, 2008, it makes its closest approach to Earth--only 24 million miles away. The emerald-colored comet will brighten to a predicted magnitude of 5.8, visible to the unaided eye from dark-sky sites and a fine target for backyard telescopes anywhere.

Two nights before closest approach, on Dec 30 and 31, something extraordinary will happen: Comet 8P/Tuttle has a beautiful close encounter with spiral galaxy M33. The comet and the galaxy may even overlap! This is a can't-miss opportunity for astrophotographers around the world.
